While we all love trying on new clothes, whether its a fancy evening gown or tuxedo, the latest streetwear, or trends originating out of fashion capitals Paris, New York or Milan, it's important to take a moment to reflect about the impact that shopping and your consumer habits have on the world around us.
Unfortunately, the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries worldwide. 80 billion articles of clothing are produced every year, this accounts for roughly 10% of the total carbon emissions and 20% of the global wastewater every year(1) 🌍
80% of the overall environmental damage of each clothing article occurs in the production process. As a consumer, this means that each time we buy a pre-owned piece of clothing, we are saving 80% of the overall carbon emissions compared to buying new! ♻️ That deserves a pat on the back, and some serious attention!
Because most people are unaware of the impact of "fast fashion" and the severe cons of excessive, industrial clothing production, we believe that through education and awareness, and providing a great secondhand shopping and resale experience through platforms like ours, we can collectively help save our world from those damaging effects! 🦸
Our achievements so far
At Cirqular, we are doing our best to make it as easy as possible to fight against and reduce the environmental impact of fashion, while still enjoying the shopping experience and thrill of buying new pieces for your wardrobe.
Since our launch in April 2020, we have managed to save over 1000 kgs of CO² and half a million litres of water 💪🏼💨
💦
To put that into perspective...
The average European citizen uses 144 litres of water per day(2). So, in only 5 months, Cirqular already has managed to nearly offset the total yearly water consumption of the whole Cirqular team for the next two years 😍
What can you do to reduce your environmental impact?
As a consumer, you can help to better the environment every day.
Some small examples to get you started? Choose the eco-function the next time you are washing your clothes. Make recycling a no brainer. Use a refillable water bottle. Make an effort to eat more veg and organic, small production.
And most of all, when you're ready to shop, check out stores that work on a circular, secondhand model like us, online at Cirqular, or in person at our showroom at Engelbrektsgatan 12 in Stockholm!
Check out our ever-growing new arrivals, and curated collections for the summer or your next party, to find your favourite new styles or luxury deals 👗👜
